Nurse practitioner Chris Carter and the outreach team at Lewisham Hospital NHS Trust were the winners of the 'Innovation in your Specialty Award' at the NT Awards on November 6, 2006, for improving severe sepsis outcomes. The guidelines are called 'The Severe Sepsis Resuscitation Care Bundle' which was developed internationally as part of the Surviving Sepsis campaign that aims to lower mortality by 25% by 2009.

The automatic choice for tackling infections
Article Abstract:
Jane McNeish and her team won the NT Awards 2006 Infection Control category due to their innovative automated telephone system for tracking post-surgical infections. The system has to be accessed by the patients after their surgery by answering questions about their wounds, and are immediately contacted and necessary steps taken if they seem to be at a risk for infection.
