Health service provision in hospital is an ideal opportunity for those often excluded in society to have long-term access to medical advice and services. The majority of medical staff at Moorlands Prison, Yorkshire, UK, work as both prison officers and nurses, offering prisoners the chance to tackle long-term medical issues, such as drug addiction. Mental health is a very important part of health service provision within prisons, as many inmates have mental health problems.

Article Abstract:

The risks involved in smoking are well documented but nurses are failing to heed the advice from health professionals and colleagues. A survey into nurses who smoke found a large proportion of psychiatric nurses smoked while very few health visitors and midwifes had the habit. Up to 1.7 billion pounds sterling is spent on patients with smoking related illness every year by the National Health Service in the UK.
