Intake and sources of alpha-linolenic acid in Dutch elderly men
Article Abstract:
The use of unhydrogenated oils, such as rapeseed and soybean oil, can increase alpha-linolenic acid intake. Other sources of alpha-linolenic acid include margarines and some other fats. Partially hydrogenated vegetable oils in margarines increase the share of poly-unsaturated fatty acids in the total fat intake. A study involving Dutch elderly men shows that a diet rich in alpha-linolenic acid can prove beneficial to heart patients.

Linoleic acid and the immune response
Article Abstract:
The effects of linoleic acid or the predominant omega-6 fatty acid (PUFA) on human health is analyzed. The research aimed to prove that an excess of PUFA in the human diet adversely affects the immune system. However, the findings are inconclusive and the limitations of the study is exacerbated by the paucity of supporting literature. The dietary levels of PUFAs remain undetermined.
