Detection of prions in blood
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that the protein misfolding cyclic amplification (PMCA) technology could be automated and optimized for high-efficiency amplification of prion protein (PrP(super Sc)) is presented. Notably, serial PMCA enables detection of PrP(super Sc) in blood samples of scrapie-afflicted hamsters with 89% sensitivity and 100% specificity.

Oxidative stress is the new stress
Article Abstract:
A new study in the genetics of anxiety shows that two enzymes, glyoxalase 1 and glutathione reductase 1, are highly correlated with anxiety levels. These enzymes modulate the levels of oxidative stress, which is caused by the production of free oxygen radicals.
