Interferon-alpha2b with protease inhibitor-based antiretroviral therapy in patients with AIDS-associated Kaposi sarcoma
Article Abstract:
The safety and maximum tolerated dose of interferon (IFN)alpha2b in combination with protease inhibitor-based highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in a phase 1 study in 14 patients with AIDS-association Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is evaluated. A safe dose of IFN that can be used with HAART and, potentially, with other inhibitors of KS in future clinical trails is established.

Impact of syphilis infection on HIV viral load and CD4 cell counts in HIV-infected patients
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the effect of early syphilis on HIV viral load (VL) and CD4 cell count in patient with HIV and to analyze factors associated with changes in HIV VL and CD4 cell count. The result data confirm that syphilis infection in HIV-infected patients was associated with a significant decrease in CD4 cell count and an increase in plasma HIV VL.
