Gender differences in AIDS-associated Kaposi Sarcoma in Harare, Zimbabwe
Article Abstract:
A study report provides the first systematic description of the characteristics of AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma (AIDS-KS) in African women and the first comparison of the viral and immunologic markers of HIV-1 and KS disease in women and men. The findings reveal that women are more likely to have symptoms of fever, diaphoresis, or weight loss suggests underlying differences in the biology and pathogenesis of KS disease and/or HIV-1 disease in women compared with men or gender differences in the incidence of other coinfections.

Improving HIV surveillance in Victoria: The role of "detuned" enzyme immunoassay
Article Abstract:
The results of the detuned enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and the local surveillance method of classifying incident cases of HIV in Victoria in 1999 and 2000 are compared. It is recommended that a detuned assay or similar test become part of the routine strategy to identify incident infections in Victoria.
