Intrahousehold allocation of energy intake among children under five years and their parents in rural Bangladesh
Article Abstract:
Intrahousehold allocation of energy in rural Bangladesh was studied to test whether no age or gender bias will be apparent in intrahousehold allocation when daily energy intake is adjusted for energy expenditure. Results showed that the rural women's energy intake was significantly less than the men's and the children's. Despite moderate physical activity, frequent pregnancies and long lactation periods increased the women's energy needs. The study suggests that the women consistently received less of their energy requirements than either their husbands or their children.

Seasonal fluctuation in energy balance among farmers in Northeast Thailand: the lack of response of energy intake to the change of energy expenditure
Article Abstract:
The seasonal fluctuations in energy balance and their factors were studied among rice-growing farmers in Northeast Thailand whose rice production was enough for their food energy demand. Anthropometry, energy expenditure survey and a food consumption survey were conducted for the sample. Findings indicated that the modest seasonal changes in the body weight among the rice farmers were caused by the lack of response of total energy intake to the change of total energy intake to the change of total energy expenditure.

Seasonal variations in energy balance among agriculturalists in central Mali: compromise or adaptation?
Article Abstract:
A survey of seasonal variations in the energy balance of adult agriculturalists in Central Mali reveals considerable disparity in energy homeostasis. Loss of body weight in the rainy season is a response to the energy imbalance. Weight decrease is due to loss of adipose tissue but no change occurs in lean tissue. Energy consumption in men increase in the rainy season. Energy expenditure of women is less sensitively influenced by seasonal variations.
