Developmental changes in reactivity of small femoral arteries in the fetal and postnatal baboon
Article Abstract:
In baboons, the relaxation and constriction of small arteries does not change when the fetus is born. However, constriction does increase throughout the pregnancy. This is most likely caused by the maturation of blood vessels.

During pregnancy, the blood vessels in the uterus are less sensitive to chemicals that constrict them. This allows the blood vessels to supply adequate amounts of blood to the fetus.

Intravenous infusion of magnesium sulfate and regional redistribution of fetal blood flow during maternal hemorrhage in late-gestation gravid ewes
Article Abstract:
Magnesium sulfate does not adversely affect fetal blood flow under stressful conditions as doctors had feared it would, according to a study in sheep. Magnesium sulfate is used to prevent seizures in women with preeclampsia and to stop premature labor.
