How do you compare?
Article Abstract:
Health service indicators (HSIs) can be accessed by nurses on computer to compare services within the National Health Service (NHS) across the UK. The HSIs are published on floppy disks annually by the NHS Management Executive. The software is easy to use, with menus to direct the user to his goal. 'Clusters' allow the nurse to compare services by providers in similar locations to her own. Many indicators can also be used for specialities. Examples of HSIs use in information about hip replacement, outpatients, and services for the aged are also presented.
