The new genetics technology has the potential to bring enormous benefits for patients and can serve as al lifeline that helps to give straight answers to difficult questions. Genetics counselors are soon to become registered as a separate profession where the role of counselor could involve knowledge of many conditions.

Efforts by British hospitals to reduce the incidence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureaus infections in hospitals is examined. Increased emphasis on infection control methods, hand hygiene and patient education are highlighted.
