JAMA editor warns of health system 'meltdown.' (JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association; George D. Lundberg; includes information from additional JAMA articles on the health care crisis)
Article Abstract:
Health care reform suggestions proliferate as the health care system nears crisis status. To avoid nationalization of the health care system, which would be catastrophic, JAMA editor George D. Lundberg maintains that patients, physicians and all health care industry 'stake-holders' must compromise. Robert J. Blendon, of the Harvard School of Public Health, says consensus must be reached on seven issues before the health care crisis can be resolved. Donald W. Light, of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Camden, asserts that risk-rated health insurance should be abandoned because it discriminates against the sick and is immoral.

JAMA launches asthma information site on the Web
Article Abstract:
JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association, has established a World Wide Web site featuring continually updated clinical information about asthma. The Asthma Information Center is for health experts and the public. The site is similar to a JAMA online resource about HIV and AIDS. Part of the reason for the asthma site is the rising presence of the condition among Americans, says George Lundberg, a JAMA editor.
