JCAHO accreditation: a challenge for subacute care providers
Article Abstract:
Suggested preparation methods and reasons for accrediting subacute care facilities have been presented. Accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations gives these facilities a competitive advantage in the healthcare market. Administrative and on-site staff need to be committed both as leaders towards this goal but also to fund needed training and preparation. An appropriately selected committee can set goals, monitor progress, and implement needed changes.

Risk shifting in subacute care
Article Abstract:
Healthcare providers in subacute facilities need to prepare for the possibility that managed care organizations (MCOs) will shift to a capitated payment plan. There is no evidence that shifting patients to a subacute facility will save money. Preliminary results from one study indicate that this could actually increase costs. Subacute care providers should form consortia to determine whether subacute care can reduce costs.
