Joint Commission sets rules for performance systems
Article Abstract:
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has approved an initial method of determining performance standards for health organizations that seek accreditation. The Commission scrapped original plans to institute a single Indicator Monitoring System, with 30 performance indicators to be in place in 1996, after test hospitals had complaints about the system. Instead, the Commission will allow organizations seeking accreditation to choose from an array of performance measurement systems.

'The bar has been set high': New AMA accreditation program sets high standards; now seeks participants
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association has released new standards for physicians under its American Medical Accreditation Program (AMAP). Healthcare sources say that the fact that the standards are set high should reflect well on the AMAP. Physician accreditation will be precluded if there has been final disciplinary action against any medical or osteopathic license within the last five years, fraud or felony conviction since medical school graduation, or reported adjudicated violation of the AMA's ethics code.
