Profiling gains acceptance within profession

Physicians increasingly believe that practice profiling can enhance their leverage and compensation in managed-care situations. Affiliated Physicians Network Inc chief Joseph Welfeld, in comments at the National Managed Health Care Congress, noted that physicians, who once saw profiling as a necessary evil, see it a as beneficial. He explained that group practice members in sophisticated markets increasingly see profiling as a means of determining how risk pool funds are split up.

Tort reform focus now shifts to state legislative action
Article Abstract:
Physicians are optimistic about health care reform at the state level. Legislators in Ohio passed a package of liability reforms which place limits on noneconomic damages and scale back joint and several liability. The Pennsylvania Legislature passed a tort reform package spurred by excessive surcharges for a special liability fund.
