Know your enemy: not all cases of cumulative trauma disorder are alike
Article Abstract:
Cumulative trauma disorder (CTD) is developed from a series of musculoskeletal injuries sustained over time. Oftentimes, CTD involves an inflamed area and doctors usually treat this with anti-inflammatories and advise the employee to take a vacation, work in another section or render only light duty. However, some CTD cases do not involve inflammation but just some pain. The injury will worsen if the employee avoids painful movements while forcing the injured part to perform its normal functions may cause even more injury. Thus, early intervention is crucial and employees should be encouraged to report signs of stresses or strains.

Fume control: how to handle a welding hazard
Article Abstract:
Several factors need to be considered when controlling welding fumes. Companies should carry out a well-planned, total-systems approach to determine the best methods of minimizing fumes and limit operator exposure. Welding engineers should also understand the function that weld size and the type of welding function support in the creation of fumes. In addition, safety managers should examine the feasibility of using ventilation systems in reducing fumes and operator exposure.

TB is back
Article Abstract:
Around 13 million people in the country have been exposed to tuberculosis, the leading cause of death at the beginning of the 20th century. Statistics from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) revealed that about 5.3 million workers in hospitals, homeless shelters and nursing homes are exposed to the disease. The return of tuberculosis has been correlated with the emergence of strains of M. tuberculosis and the drug-resistance capabilities of the disease.
