Rho(D) immune globulin IV for prevention of Rh isoimmunization and for treatment of ITP
Article Abstract:
Intravenous (IV) Rho(D) immune globulin (WinRho SD) may treat be used to immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and prevent Rh isoimmunization in Rhesus-negative women. The IV solution seems to be effective in treating Rh-positive ITP patients at a much lower cost than other immune globulins. On the other hand, WinRho SD costs about three times as much as injected immune globulins when administered to prevent maternal immunization in pregnancy. For the prevention of isoimmunization, the manufacturer recommends a dose of 300 micrograms at 28 weeks of pregnancy and 120 micrograms at delivery. ITP drug protocols involve initial dosing of 25 to 50 micrograms per kilogram (kg) and maintenance treatment if necessary, up to 80 micrograms/kg. Fever, chills, lower hemoglobin concentrations, and headaches may occur very rarely.

Bexarotene (Targretin) for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
Article Abstract:
The FDA has approved the drug bexarotene for treating cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Sold under the trade name Targretin, it mimics chemicals called retinoids. Retinoids are naturally occurring chemicals in the body that control cell differentiation and growth. For this reason, the drug may inhibit the growth of tumor cells. Two clinical trials have documented the drug's effectiveness in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. However, it does have side effects and is very expensive.
