Leader finally chosen for panel on Medicare's future
Article Abstract:
President Clinton, House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott have announced the selection of Sen John Breaux to head the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare. The panel, created pursuant to the 1997 Balanced Budget Act, is supposed to make a report, by Mar 1999, containing recommendations on how to preserve Medicare's solvency.

Reinventing rule-making
Article Abstract:
Negotiated rule-making is becoming a popular method to solve difficult Medicare issues. The procedure involves the participation of stakeholders in an open committee meeting forum. Issues that have been resolved by the procedure include resetting the hospice wage index and establishing anti-kickback safe harbors for risk-sharing entities.
