Article Abstract:
Three reports that make up a review of the role of the learning disability nurse were launched at a recent ENB learning disability nursing conference. Advice on how nurses can meet the requirements of the learning disabled in the community is given in 'Continuing the Commitment'. The report recommends that pre-registration training is reviewed to include adequate levels of management and leadership skills.

Independent means: thinking of moving into the independent sector?
Article Abstract:
About half of the UK's learning disability nurses are employed in the independent sector, although some nurses still harbour suspicions about working in the independent sector. Common concerns are becoming isolated from colleagues and exploitation by unscrupulous employers. However many independent organisations are able to attract multiple sources of funding which opens up opportunities.
