Legal challenge to FDA list work of physicians, activists
Article Abstract:
The legal challenge to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ban on the drug RU-486 was created by members of the San Francisco Medical Society (SFMS). Steven Heilig, the SFMS director of public health and education, asked several women to volunteer to challenge the FDA ban. Leona Benten agreed to become a test case and attempted to bring a quantity of RU-486 into the United States. US Customs officials seized the RU-486 from Benten, thereby creating the legal challenge. While the SFMS has expressed sympathy for the positions of Heilig and Benten, it denies any official involvement with the case.

Gay men may be relapsing into risky sex, studies say
Article Abstract:
Several studies indicate that gay men are lapsing into risky sexual behavior and contracting the AIDS virus despite safe sex education. A San Francisco, CA, study showed that 20% of gay men who had practiced safe sex because of AIDS had resumed dangerous sexual practices. Health educators such as the Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) in New York City are designing safe sex materials that target this group. GMHC teaches older men and men who have become sexually active recently in separate groups to address their different attitudes towards AIDS.
