Article Abstract:
Despite national differences, harmonization of European workplace safety and health information is slowly being achieved. European Community directives are now endeavoring to standardize national legal requirements although anomalies still exist. Labor inspectorates of Community members are attempting to effect workplace health and safety directives from different perspectives.

The UK government initiative to improve standards of occupational health is discussed. Plans to set up occupational health services within the community based on Primary Care Groups and the impact on general practitioners are explored.
