The use of members' subscriptions by the Royal College of Nurses (RCN) is discussed. Criticism of the allocation of RCN resources to loss-making activities and services and to RCN staff salaries is examined.

An independent health consultant feels that as around 10% of the UK population already works in health and social care, it is unlikely that many more would do so. It is better to prevent nurses from leaving by offering them good jobs and excellent working conditions
