Long-term pediatric care in the managed care environment
Article Abstract:
Long-term or subacute pediatric care occupies a transitional place on the spectrum of care, and this requires flexibility of a managed care system. Case management can be a flexibile technique to integrate such pediatric needs into managed care. Four areas are identified for the implementation of system-wide changes, including community-level policy, structural characteristics, information systems and family-centered care.

Family Medical Leave Act: ready or not!
Article Abstract:
Nurse managers should know that their hospitals and facilities must comply with the Family Medical Leave Act. This requires giving employees up to three months leave without pay for such things as newborn care, personal health conditions or family members requiring extended care. While workers must provide 30-day advance notice to use the leave, employers have to ascertain their workers' entitlement to use it.
