Can we balance the scales of environmental justice?
Article Abstract:
The government and the business community both believe empowerment of community groups through education and communication will bring about environmental justice. Communities are urged to be vigilant in ensuring that companies comply with environmental regulations by adopting federal laws, inspecting facilities and issuing compliance orders. The centerpiece of government's efforts toward environmental justice, meanwhile, is the Executive Order on Environmental Justice which Pres. Clinton signed on Feb. 11, 1994, requiring federal agencies to assess their environmental impact on minority groups and low-income communities.
