A vaccine for rotavirus
Article Abstract:
The FDA has approved a vaccine against rotavirus. Sold under the trade name RotaShield, the vaccine is 70% to 90% effective in preventing rotavirus infection when given as three separate shots at two, four and six months of age. The US Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends adding this vaccine to the routine vaccination schedule given to all children in their first year of life. Rotavirus infections are a common cause of diarrhea and dehydration in young children.

Pneumococcal vaccine
Article Abstract:
Pneumococcal vaccine can be given at the same time as influenza vaccine. Many pneumococcal bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics, so it is especially important to vaccinate the elderly. Young children with chronic diseases or immunodeficiency may also benefit. The vaccine is about 60% to 80% effective in preventing infection with pneumococcal bacteria.
