Major to minor: the closure of Bart's A&E department has overshadowed a parallel development at the London hospital - the opening of a nurse-led minor injuries unit
Article Abstract:
A new minor injuries clinic staffed by a team of seven nurse practitioners has opened at Barts hospital, following the closure of its A&E department. It can treat only patients between 8am and 8pm. More seriously ill patients in the area are now picked up by blue-light ambulance and taken straight to a hospital with a full A&E department. A nearby 999 ambulance, paramedic and driver have been seconded to the unit for six months.
