Deirdre Thompson and Jannine Jones won the NT Award for Wound Care for organizing the trust-wide replacement of old beds, thus reducing pressure ulcer prevalence. Moreover, after taking delivery of new stock, Ms Thompson and Ms Jones were able to inform the trust that they managed to save one-third of their budget through closely monitoring the contract and ensuring appropriate pressure relieving equipment was used whenever needed.

The role of maxi nurses is extending and they are performing tasks traditionally associated with doctors in areas like emergency assessment and diagnosis, minor injury, and ailment critics. The extended roles include training doctors, work in the preadmission clinics, taking consents and reviewing patients after surgery but not all doctors welcome the shifting professional boundary.
