Malignancies, prothrombotic mutations, and the risk of venous thrombosis
Article Abstract:
The study aimed to identify individuals with cancer with an increased thrombotic risk, evaluating different tumor sites, the presence of distant metabases, and carrier status of prothrombotic mutations. It concluded that patients with cancer have a highly increased risk of venous thrombosis especially in the first few months after diagnosis and in the presence of distant metastases.

Antiangiogenic therapy a two-trick pony?
Article Abstract:
Antiangiogenic therapy reports revealed that its ability to bring oxygen and nutrients to tumors were not enough to combat established tumors in humans. Thus, an antiangiogenic agent could kill many to most cancer cells, but the remaining cancer cells would begin to make new angiogenic molecules and new blood vessels would come up again.

Beyond the teachable moment
Article Abstract:
The lack of fundamental understanding by the public about the nature of science and scientific evidence represents a growing obstacle to the biomedical research. The public engagement is suggested as an alternative health care approach, which would allow biomedical researchers to serve the society better.
