Multiple concurrent reverse transcriptase and protease mutations and multidrug resistance of HIV-1 isolates from heavily treated patients
Article Abstract:
Mutations in HIV may confer resistance to multiple antiviral drugs used in the treatment of HIV infection. Researchers analyzed HIV strains from four patients who had undergone four to nine years of combination drug therapy without achieving substantial decreases in viral load. Seven protease mutations and eight reverse transcriptase mutations were detected which conferred a high level of drug resistance. New drugs or drug combinations may be required to suppress the virus in patients infected with resistant HIV.

Comparison of the precision and sensitivity of the Antivirogram and PhenoSense HIV drug susceptibility assays
Article Abstract:
Susceptibility results of HIV-1 isolates lacking drug resistance mutations and containing matching patterns of drug resistance mutations are examined in order to assess the precision of the Antivirogram and PhenoSense assays. The PhenoSense assay is more precise than the Antivirogram assay and superior at detecting resistance to abacavir, didanosine, and stavudine.

HIV-1 drug resistance genotype results in patients with plasma samples with HIV-1 RNA levels less than 75 copies/ml
Article Abstract:
HIV-1 genotypic resistance test were obtained on clinical samples from 116 patients with plasma, HIV RNA levels of less than 75 copies/mL. Genotypic validity was confirmed in 49 of 50 patients with a previous or follow-up genotype.
