The KPMG industry consultant revealed that the major publicly traded managed care companies would continue to make big profits in the year 2004. As per the firm the health plans need to do well financially as it helped in lightening the high cost burden upon patients and continued hikes in premium due to which profits were made.

Anthem-WellPoint deal may kick off merger mania

California based WellPoint Health Networks and Indianapolis based Anthem Inc. are planning to merge to create the nations largest health plan at 26 million members. Their merger has started the trend of insurer mergers thus making the doctors worry for the potential market domination.
