Managed care: what is its impact on physician assistants?
Article Abstract:
Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) offer expanded opportunities for physician assistants (PAs). However, because of the shortage of qualified PAs, HMOs have faced difficulty implementing models of care that utilize PAs. Currently, HMOs market the services of physicians, but in the long run, they will utilize PAs to cut cost and preserve the same quality of care.
