Managing VWf. (Vibration White finger, industrial disease)
Article Abstract:
Vibration White finger (VWf) is a common industrial disease but is often overlooked as a health hazard. Hand held tools are the most common source of damaging vibration and assessors need to be suspicious of any process causing tingling or numbness. A vibration management programme should incorporate an assessment of tools and processes, operator training in techniques to minimise risks and audits to ensure up to date assessments.

Keep the noise down
Article Abstract:
Companies can considerably reduce the costs of complying with the Noise Regulations by setting out simple objectives when developing a Noise Management Programme. These include aiming to reduce exposure to noise of all employees to the lowest possible level, implementing effective hearing protection programmes, reducing noise at source and the consideration of noise output when specifying new plant.

Peace offering
Article Abstract:
Noise Regulations require the reduction of noise levels via a noise control programme, however, research has revealed that companies spent 100-1000% more than the 'Best Practicable Means' (BPM) on noise control. The overspending is attributed to lack of a diagnostic procedure and BPM knowledge, combined with ignorance of latest engineering techniques. Two case studies are given.
