Effect of sympathetic reinnervation on cardiac performance after heart transplantation
Article Abstract:
Reinnervation of a transplanted heart can improve its response to exercise, according to a study of 29 heart transplant recipients. During a heart transplantation, the nerves leading to the heart are cut and this was thought to be permanent. However, research has shown that the nerves can spontaneously re-attach to the donated heart, a condition called reinnervation.

Reinnervation of the transplanted heart -- why is it important?
Article Abstract:
Reinnervation of a transplanted heart appears to improve the heart's response to exercise. During heart transplantation, the nerves to the heart are cut, and this was thought to be irreversible. However, research has shown that the nerves can spontaneously re-attach to the donated heart, a condition called reinnervation.

Mechanical reperfusion in patients with acute myocardial infarction presenting more than 12 hours from symptom onset: A randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
A study aims to assess whether an immediate invasive treatment strategy is associated with a reduction of infarct size in patients with acute St-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), presenting between 12 and 48 hours after symptom onset, vs. a conventional conservative strategy. An invasive strategy based on coronary stenting with adjunctive use of abciximab reduces infarct size in patients with acute STEMI without persistent symptoms presenting 12 to 48 hours after symptom onset.
