Rational or reasonable? perceptions of health at different stages of life
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of two studies undertaken in the late 1980s indicates that a generalised approach to health education, setting down rules which are supposed to apply to everyone, may not be fully relevant to today's society. An individual's stage of life must also be taken into account, and this can give a totally different view of behaviour generally thought to be damaging to health. Health education programmes should therefore be more dynamic and culturally-relevant.

Diet, obesity and being overweight: a qualitative research study
Article Abstract:
A study to discover the current, common perceptions of being obese was carried out for the UK Health Education Authority. The project used a number of group discussions and one-to-one interviews conducted with a sample of overweight and obese people, as well as successful dieters to examine how overweight people regard their condition. Results indicate a need for health educators to emphasize the benefits of long-term changes in eating behavior.
