1948: a new health organization is born
Article Abstract:
The World Health Organization (WHO) officially began on April 7, 1948, following planning, study and constitution ratification by the United Nations. WHO's first emphasis was on combating venereal diseases, malaria, tuberculosis, and the poor health of mothers and children. These and other health concerns have endured throughout WHO's history, yet many lives have been saved over the years.
