Model for a nursing center: spanning boundaries
Article Abstract:
The Midwest Community Council Nursing Center seeks to increase access to primary health care in a medically underserved urban African American community. The Center employs a boundary-spanning model of practice that entails cooperation with other medical services as well as with community agencies, organizations and individuals. The Center's approach is community-centered, tailored to the people it serves. Since the Center's opening in 1992, child immunization levels, newborn birthweights and provision of prenatal care during the first trimester have all increased.

Consumer satisfaction with nursing care in a rural community hospital emergency department
Article Abstract:
Patients were found to be highly satisfied with nursing care in a survey conducted at the emergency department of a rural community hospital. The Consumer Emergency Care Satisfaction Scale developed by Davis was completed by 52 patients to assess satisfaction with psychological safety, information giving, technical competence and discharge teaching. The highest possible satisfaction level was elicited for 83.17% of participants. Satisfaction with discharge teaching was significantly lower for African Americans than for whites.

Outcomes in an academic nursing center: client satisfaction with student services
Article Abstract:
Patients in academic nursing centers where nursing students perform the home visiting services to improve access to medical care for vulnerable populations report overwhelming levels of satisfaction with care. The patients are expectant families, elderly persons living independently in the community and families having children with special health needs. Respondents seemed unaware of the supervision of the students by registered nurse faculty members and steps were taken to improve this situation.
