Modified Le Fort colpocleisis with Kelly urethral plication and posterior colpoperineoplasty in the medically compromised elderly: a comparison with vaginal hysterectomy, anterior colporrhaphy, and posterior colpoperineoplasty
Article Abstract:
Elderly women who are too ill to undergo prolonged surgery and whose uterus and vagina have collapsed may benefit from surgery to close the vaginal opening. Researchers evaluated the outcome of 21 elderly women who underwent a modified Le Fort procedure to close the vagina because the uterus and vagina had collapsed and were protruding externally. Nonsurgical management of the condition with vaginal inserts posed problems for the patients and their caregivers. Patients were contacted four to 40 months after surgery, and 95% experienced improvement in their condition. The Le Fort procedure's benefits include reduced time in surgery, low amounts of blood loss, and the option of using local anesthesia. Local anesthesia was used in five of the patients.

The demographics of pelvic floor disorders: current observations and future projections
Article Abstract:
Doctors estimate that there will be a 45% increase in demand for treatments for urinary incontinence and other pelvic floor disorders among older women even though the number of older women will only increase 22%. The primary reason for this is the fact that older women generate 10 times the number of requests for these treatments than younger women.

Determinants of patient satisfaction after the tension-free vaginal tape procedure
Article Abstract:
The comparison of patient satisfaction with preoperative, intraoperative, perioperative and postoperative factors is presented. Satisfied patients were significantly at a lesser risk of overactive bladder (OAB) or difficulty voiding symptoms before surgery.
