Modified directly observed therapy to facilitate highly active antiretroviral therapy adherence in Beira, Mozambique
Article Abstract:
A mixed-methods approach was used to describe the process of implementing modified directly observed therapy (mDOT) for an ongoing randomized control trial (RCT) in Beira, Mozambique. The observations suggest that trained and supervised peers could be effective for observing treatment, educating and counseling patients, and strengthening relationships between patients and their health clinics and communities.

HIV-infected patients receiving lopinavir/ritonavir-based antiretroviral therapy achieve high rates of virologic suppression despite adherence rates less than 95%
Article Abstract:
The level of adherence required to achieve virologic suppression in patients receiving boosted protease inhibitor (PI) based highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) with lopinavir/ritonavir is assessed. The results have shown that moderate levels of adherence have led to in most patients taking lopinavir/ritonavir-based HAART.

Efficacy of antiretroviral therapy adherence interventions
Article Abstract:
A quantitative review of published trials of antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence interventions is conducted. Outcomes of studies targeting those with poor ART adherence has stronger effects than those intervening with groups of individuals who were mixed in terms of pretest levels of adherence.
