An intranet in action: automation trends in medicine
Article Abstract:
Small hospitals and medical centers can develop intranets by contracting with outside service providers. Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, will begin operating what is believe to be the first externally developed hospital intranet in Jan 1997. The intranet will link the hospital's information system with the hospital's 300 active physicians. The first phase of the project cost about $100,000 and was completed in less than six months.

What you say is what you get
Article Abstract:
Physicians have resisted the use of speech recognition systems, in part because those systems require phrases to be enunciated a single word at a time. But manufacturers are developing systems that can recognize continuous speech, and those systems will allow doctors to speak normally. Physician tests of Philips' Speech Processing System will begin in Mar 1995.
