Democrats hanker for health reform
Article Abstract:
House Ways and Means Committee Chmn Pete Stark will have difficulties in forming a consensus for healthcare reform among committee members. The reform would set a cap on health spending, establish a price on all medical services and extend Medicare payment rules to private insurers. Conservative committee members, however, are proposing managed care and malpractice reforms to control costs. An analysis of each proposed reform is also presented.

Make insurance individually owned: AMA promotes incentives to let workers buy coverage
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association (AMA) has announced that it will support legislation that encourages workers to purchase individually-owned insurance. The medical association is also lobbying for tax incentives to encourage employers to provide money for employees to purchase insurance. In contrast to its new position, the AMA favored mandating employer coverage until 1993.
