More than lip service: facial esthetics in orthodontics
Article Abstract:
Dentists should be willing to extract teeth if the patient is concerned about protrusion or crowding of teeth. Some dentists believe teeth should never be extracted for strictly cosmetic reasons. However, the alternatives such as arch expansion may not be suitable either. Some dentists believe extraction causes a flattened appearance. But surveys show that people who look at pictures of dental patients do not find any difference in appearance whether the teeth have been extracted or not.

The role of cosmetic dentistry in restoring a youthful appearance
Article Abstract:
Dentists can expand their practice by offering patients cosmetic dentistry. As the population ages, more and more people may want this type of treatment. Advances in dental materials and procedures already allow dentists to restore teeth to a more youthful appearance. The changes teeth undergo as they age are described, as are ways to restore a youthful appearance.
