More than meets the eye
Article Abstract:
Families affected by chronic illness need to be listened to and understood and to have their feelings acknowledged, but delays in making assessments can leave both patients and carers feeling isolated. Assessment gives a patient the chance to be heard and understood and should automatically follow a firm diagnosis. Assessors can make patients feel unique and valued by listening to the way in which they are making sense of what is happening. Patients and carers need varying degrees of emotional support, but will find it helpful to talk about their feelings and concerns.

Article Abstract:
Many people turn to complementary medicine when seeking ways to fight disease. However, such people are often vulnerable to exploitation in their bid to seek a cure. A group of professionals in cancer care, recognizing the demand for complementary therapies, has established a centre that offers advice on both alternative and orthodox healthcare. The Cavendish Centre works with cancer sufferers and offers them advice and treatment encompassing therapies including acupuncture and aromatherapy, as well as mainstream medicine.
