Mother Earth's doctor
Article Abstract:
Physicians can have a great impact on educating their patients about environmental issues and in the process help enhance the image of the profession. The Genesee County Medical Society, for example, warned people to refrain from eating Great Lakes fish, which were potentially toxic, if they intended to have children. However, a survey of 3,129 persons, conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency, found most trust their doctors but do not think their physicians are the best source of environmental knowledge. Consequently, doctors need to become more informed.
