Columbia to end physician deals; firm remains a strong partner

Columbia/HCA Healthcare is under federal investigation for fraudulent Medicare billing practices by some of its physicians. New Columbia Chmn/CEO Thomas F. Frist Jr. wants trust established between Columbia and federal authorities so full cooperation has been offered in the investigation. Pending physician-investment contracts have been canceled and existing contracts will also be canceled when possible.

Leonard J. Morse has been appointed the chief medical officer of the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center in Massachusetts. Morse has a unique philosophy, he encourages physicians to cooperate by sharing expenses, sharing knowledge, and working together in a group setting. Morse left a Worchester-based practice he founded to join the health center.
