Multiple gestations in assisted reproductive technology: can they be avoided with blastocyst transfers?
Article Abstract:
Implanting blastocysts during in vitro fertilization may not necessarily prevent a multiple pregnancy. A blastocyst is an advanced-stage embryo that is more likely to implant successfully. However, in a study of 553 blastocyst transfers, 36% of the resulting pregnancies were twins and 4% were triplets.

Alteration of ascending thoracic aorta compliance after treatment with menotropin
Article Abstract:
Estrogen may affect circulation by increasing elasticity in the walls of large arteries. Estrogen is known to affect blood vessels during pregnancy and when given to women after the menopause. Researchers used magnetic resonance imaging to study the thoracic aorta in nine women receiving high doses of estrogen as part of preparation for in vitro fertilization. Estrogen had no effect on the diameter of the aorta, but calculation showed increased elasticity of the walls. This shows that even short-term increases in estrogen can have an effect.

Initial experience with extended culture and blastocyst transfer of cryopreserved embryos
Article Abstract:
Allowing human embryos to grow to the blastocyst stage may improve pregnancy rates and lower the rate of multiple pregnancies during in vitro fertilization. This may occur because the blastocysts are of higher quality, which means that only one or two embryos are needed.
