NK cells promote islet allograft tolerance via a perforin-dependent mechanism
Article Abstract:
A crucial role for host major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-dependent NK cell reactivity for allograft tolerance in mice induced through either costimulation blockade using CD154-specific antibody therapy or by targeting LFA-1 is demonstrated. Results suggest that tolerance induction absolutely required host expression of MHC class I, but were independent of CD8 T cell-dependent immunity.

In vivo imaging of transcriptionally active estrogen receptors
Article Abstract:
Research shows that hormone-independent activation of the estrogen receptor in non-reproductive organs suggest a therapeutic value for estrogens in hormone replacement therapy. Data indicate that maximum transcriptional activity of the estrogen receptor in reproductive tissue and in liver occurs at proestrus, whereas in bone and brain the peak activity occurs at diestrus.

Artificial antigen-presenting cells as a tool to exploit the immune 'synapse'
Article Abstract:
Recombinant major histocompatibility complex-peptide complexes are used in oligomeric combinations and fixed to available rigid supports for binding by T-cell receptors to examine immune system processes. Implications include using this method for oral tolerance induction, viral infections and immunization.
