N.Y. doctors ready to sue over lack of Medicaid pay
Article Abstract:
Medical specialists and the Medical Society of the State of New York are threatening to sue the state over a new policy denying doctors fee-for-service Medicaid reimbursement for emergency and outpatient services. Critics of the policy, a feature of Gov George Pataki's new Medicaid budget, allege that state payments to hospitals for such services only cover a fraction of their cost. The state might be in violation of federal Medicaid rules.

Oregon officials eye cutbacks in Medicaid coverage
Article Abstract:
Oregon health officials would like to reduce Medicaid eligibility from those individuals with $5,000 in liquid assets to individuals with $2,000 in liquid assets. This change would be made because Oregon is facing a $19.7 million budget deficit. Politicians believe the changes are minor but social service activists are concerned about the working poor. Approximately 1,200 people would lose health benefits if these changes are implemented.
