Evidence of autoantibodies to cell membrane associated DNA (cultured lymphocytes): a new specific marker for rapid identification of systemic lupus erythematosus
Article Abstract:
A test that detects antibodies to cell membrane DNA may help identify patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Most DNA occurs in the cell nucleus, but DNA in the cell membrane was discovered in 1973. Researchers used indirect immunofluorescence to detect antibodies against lymphocyte cell membrane DNA in patients with various types of rheumatic disease. Fifty-three of 80 patients with lupus tested positive for the antibodies. None of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis tested positive.

Assessment of anti-endothelial cell antibodies in systemic sclerosis and Sjogren's syndrome
Article Abstract:
Antibodies against endothelial cells in patients with systemic sclerosis appear to be a sign of secondary Sjogren's syndrome. Systemic sclerosis is a connective tissue disease caused by collagen deposits in blood vessels. Researchers measured anti-endothelial cell antibodies (AECA) in blood samples from patients with systemic sclerosis, Sjogren's syndrome and healthy volunteers. Levels were higher in both groups of patients and were higher in systemic sclerosis patients who also had Sjogren's syndrome.
