Necrotizing fasciitis caused by community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Los Angeles
Article Abstract:
A characterization of a newly described syndrome of necrotizing fasciitis caused by community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is given. In areas in which this pathogen is endemic, empirical therapy for necrotizing fasciitis should include antibiotics, such as vancomycin, that are reliably active against locally circulating strains of community-associated MRSA.
