Physicians who own medical office buildings and rent to other doctors who refer them patients need to be careful of Stark laws and anti-kickback legislation, which emphasize on fair market value or on setting appropriate lease value. The key to avoiding the situation is to ensure that the rent paid is consistent with market rates and those involved have a signed legitimate agreement.

N.D. physician maligned in press gets an apology
Article Abstract:
The Bismarck Tribune reported a medical malpractice settlement case portraying wrong image of North Dakota pediatric neurosurgeon Mark Monasky, MD in 1999. However, in 2001 the newspaper apologized doctor Monasky as he sued the newspaper for defamation and emotional suffering.
