Neither this nor that: the stigma of being an undergraduate nurse
Article Abstract:
Researchers followed up a 1984 study which revealed that undergraduate nurses felt stigmatized in relationships with colleagues who had undertaken regular pre-registration training. The present study, conducted amongst 30 undergraduate mental health nursing students, revealed that the situation had changed little. Undergraduate nurses continue to feel uncomfortable on the wards. They find that staff comment about the students knowing more than them, but also seem to believe that the students do not have enough clinical skills. The student nurses also feel different from other undergraduates at the university.

Patients' views of nurse prescribing
Article Abstract:
National Health Service patients in the United Kingdom are in favour of nurse prescribing practices introduced in Oct 1994 because they believe that the changes have resulted in a better service. Those in receipt of health visitor prescribing services consider themselves to be very much better off than they were before. Most patients believe that the nursing sister is an appropriate professional to administer prescribed treatments. Other patient views are given.

An evaluation of the role of the nurse practitioner
Article Abstract:
Recent research has looked at the unclear nature of the role of the nurse practitioner, considering where it does or does not overlap with that of the doctor. It was concluded that it is necessary to take a more rigorous approach to evaluating the nurse practitioner's role, especially as there is now great pressure to reduce costs. Nursing practice tends to vary considerably across the UK, and efforts must also be made to address this problem.
